سابقه و هدف: تمرینات تناوبی، به انواع مختلف، امروزه یکی از مؤثرترین ابزارها برای بهبود عملکرد قلبی- تنفسی و متابولیکی و به نوبه‌ی خود بهبود عملکرد بدنی افراد محسوب می‌شود. هدف از پژوهش حاضر، مقایسه‌ی تأثیر ۸ هفته تمرینات تداومی، تناوبی بر حداکثر اکسیژن مصرفی، استقامت عضلانی و سلامت عمومی دانش‌آموزان پسر پایه‌ی هفتم دارای اضافه وزن بود.
مواد و روش‌‌ها: بدین منظور، تعداد ۶۰ دانش‌آموز پسر دارای اضافه وزن با شاخص توده‌ی بدنی ۲۱/۹ تا ۲۶/۸، انتخاب و به طور تصادفی به سه گروه تمرینات تداومی، تناوبی و شاهد تقسیم شدند. پروتکل تمرینی به مدت ۸ هفته برای هر گروه با مدت زمان ۲۰ تا ۳۰ دقیقه‌، اجرا شد. مقادیر حداکثر اکسیژن مصرفی، استقامت عضلانی (بر اساس آزمون های شنا، بورپی، اسکات، پروانه و غیره) و سلامت عمومی (بر اساس پرسش نامه ی سلامت عمومی)، قبل و بعد از آخرین جلسه ی تمرین اندازه گیری شدند. تحلیل داده‌ها با استفاده از آزمون Dependent t-test و تحلیل واریانس انجام شد.
یافته‌ها: نتایج پژوهش گویای افزایش معنی‌دار حداکثر اکسیژن مصرفی، استقامت عضلانی و بهبود سلامت عمومی آزمودنی‌ها است (۰/۰۵ P).
نتیجه‌گیری: تأثیر تمرینات تناوبی بر حداکثر اکسیژن مصرفی و برخی شاخص‌های سلامت عمومی بیشتر بود، اما بین دو گروه تجربی، از لحاظ استقامت عضلانی، تفاوت معنی‌داری مشاهده نشد.
