سابقه و هدف: گازگرفتگی توسط حیوانات مشکل و تهدیدی مهم برای سلامتی است. این مطالعه با هدف کاربرد تئوری انگیزش محافظت، که بر پایه رفتارهای محافظتی و پیشگیری‌کننده است، برای ارزیابی عوامل مؤثر در قصد رفتارهای پیشگیری‌کننده از حیوان‌گزیدگی در دانش‌آموزان ابتدایی انجام شد.
مواد و روش ها: این مطالعه توصیفی‌تحلیلی با روش نمونه‌گیری تصادفی چندمرحله‌‌ای روی چهارصد دانش‌آموز ابتدایی (هفت تا دوازده سال) از مهر تا آذر سال ۱۴۰۳ در مشهد اجرا شد. ابزار جمع‌آوری داده‌ها شامل دو بخش اطلاعات دموگرافیک و سؤالات مربوط به سازه‌های تئوری انگیزش محافظت است که محققان در یک مطالعه پایلوت آن را طراحی و روایی و پایایی آن را تأیید کردند. داده‌ها با استفاده از نرم‌افزار SPSS نسخه ۲۶ و با استفاده از آمار توصیفی (میانگین، انحراف معیار و ...) و تحلیلی شامل هم‌بستگی پیرسون و رگرسیون خطی چندگانه تجزیه‌وتحلیل شدند. سطح آماری ۰/۰۵ معنی‌دار در نظر گرفته شد.
یافته‌ها: ۴۷/۳ درصد دانش‌آموزان مؤنث بودند و ۷۹ درصد آنان سابقه حیوان‌گزیدگی نداشتند. میانگین و انحراف معیار سنی شرکت‌کنندگان ۰/۹±۹/۵ سال بود. نتایج آزمون ضریب هم‌بستگی پیرسون نشان می‌دهد که بین سازه‌های حساسیت درک‌شده (۰/۰۱>P، ۰/۴۸۲r=)، شدت درک‌شده (۰/۰۱>P، ۰/۲۶۶r=)، کارآمدی پاسخ (۰/۰۱>P،  ۰/۵۰۹r=)، خودکارآمدی (۰/۰۱>P،  ۰/۶۳۹r=) و ترس (۰/۰۵>P ،  ۰/۱۲۲r=) با انگیزش محافظت یا قصد رفتارهای پیشگیری‌کننده از حیوان‌گزیدگی هم‌بستگی مستقیم و معنی‌داری وجود داشت. همچنین، بین سازه‌های هزینه پاسخ درک‌شده (۰/۰۱>P،  ۰/۲۴۹r=-) و پاداش درک‌شده (۰/۰۱>P،  ۰/۱۷۶r=-) با انگیزش محافظت رفتارهای پیشگیری‌کننده از حیوان‌گزیدگی هم‌بستگی معکوس و معنی‌دار بود. نتایج رگرسیون خطی برای پیش‌بینی‌کننده‌های قصد رفتارهای محافظت‌کننده از حیوان‌گزیدگی نشان داد که سازه‌های خودکارآمدی، حساسیت درک‌شده و پاداش پیش‌بینی‌کننده‌های معنی‌دار قصد پیشگیری از حیوان‌گزیدگی بودند و توانستند ۴۳/۵ درصد از تغییرات واریانس آن را پیش‌بینی کنند. خودکارآمدی (۰/۴۷۸β=، ۰/۰۰۱>P) قوی‌ترین پیش‌بینی‌کننده قصد محافظت از حیوان‌گزیدگی بود.
نتیجه‌گیری: سازه‌های تئوری انگیزش محافظت می‏تواند در ارتقای قصد دانش‌آموزان در اتخاذ رفتارهای پیشگیری‌کننده از حیوان‌گزیدگی مؤثر باشد. پیشنهاد می‌شود از سازه‌های این تئوری تغییر رفتار در طراحی و اجرای مداخلات در توانمندسازی دانش‌آموزان برای اتخاذ رفتارهای پیشگیری‌کننده از حیوان‌گزیدگی استفاده شود.
