Abstract

Background and Objective: Physical literacy refers to one's capacity to adopt  a healthy and physically active lifestyle. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a selected exercise program on physical literacy and body composition of overweight and obese elementary school girls.
Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted based on a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. A number of 30 elementary school girl students (age range of 7-12 years old) with overweight and obesity were selected by purposive sampling method. Thereafter, they were randomly assigned to two groups of experimental and control (n=15 in each group). The experimental group practiced selected sports activities in 12 60-minu sessions for 8 weeks. Before and after the intervention, the physical literacy questionnaire scale was completed by the subjects and the body composition status (height, weight, fat percentage, muscle mass percentage) was assessed. Data analysis was performed using analysis of covariance and dependent t-test.
Results: The obtained results pointed to a significant increase in body literacy level and muscle mass percentage, as well as a significant decrease in total body weight, body mass index, and fat percentage of the subjects (P≤ 0.05).
Conclusion: As evidenced by the results of the present study, it can be concluded that the intervention of selected sports activities has been effective in the improvement of  physical literacy and body composition of students.

Abstract

Aims: Combined exercise is a suitable and varied activity to control weight and strengthen children's respiratory muscles. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of combined rope and basketball training on body composition and some indicators of pulmonary function of overweight boys aged 10-12 years.
Materials and Methods: This article was a quasi-experimental study with a pre test-post test design with a control group. For this purpose, 30 overweight male students were purposefully selected and randomly divided into two groups of 15 experimental and control. Respiratory parameters were measured by spirometry and body composition factors before and after exercise. Subjects participated in a training program for 6 weeks. Data analysis was performed using analysis ANCOVA and dependent t-test in SPSS-20 software.
Findings: Exercise intervention in the experimental group caused a significant reduction in weight, fat percentage and body mass index compared to the control group (p<0.05). Forced Vital Capacity and Forced Expiratory Volume in one-Second pulmonary function indices have had a significant increase (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Combined basketball and rope training exercises are effective in improving body composition and increasing the performance of overweight students' lung characteristics.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Health literacy is recognized as one of the most important determinants of health for proper health decision making. On the other hand, Knowledge and attitude of people towards sports activities is an effective determinant in their decision to participate in health-oriented activities. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between health literacy and knowledge and attitude towards sports activities among high school adolescent girls.
Materials and Methods: The research method used was descriptive correlation. The statistical population of the study included all female high school students in Islamshahr, Tehran province. A sample of 341 people was selected by multi-stage random sampling. The required data were collected using the Health Literacy Measure for Adolescents questionnaire and the Knowledge and Attitude Scale. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test and multivariate regression analysis.
Results: The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between knowledge and attitude toward sports activities and health literacy (P < 0.05). All components of health literacy have the power to predict the level of awareness and attitude.
Conclusions: According to the results of this study, health literacy can play an important role in encouraging adolescents to participate in sports activities by raising awareness and positive attitude in students.

This study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between health literacy and breastfeeding performance of mothers with newborns admitted to Fatemieh Hospital in Hamadan 2022.
Materials and Methods: This research was a cross-sectional descriptive analytical study that was conducted on 210 mothers with neonate, using available sampling method. Data collection tools included maternal health literacy questionnaire, Bristol breastfeeding assessment checklist and breastfeeding self-efficacy questionnaire. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential tests.
Results: According to the results, the mean and standard deviation of the self-efficacy score, health literacy and breastfeeding performance of the mother were 117.09 (28.08), 43.74 (8.57) and 7.34 (0.87), respectively. A significant relationship was observed between health literacy and mothers' self-efficacy, mothers' performance and self-efficacy, and mothers' performance and health literacy (P < 0.05).
Conclusions: According to the results of the study, it is suggested that in educational interventions related to breastfeeding, information and training should be provided to mothers in a way that is easy for them to understand and they can easily understand the received information.
