Background and Objectives: The current study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions on improving the performance of children and teenagers with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder of the dominant type.
Materials and Methods: The research method used was the systematic review and meta-analysis of the related studies. The statistical population of the research included doctoral and master’s theses and articles published in scientific-research journals inside and outside of Iran. Due to the limited number of research that had been performed in this field, studies from 1984-2024 on the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions on improving the performance of children and teenagers with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder of the predominant attention deficit type were collected. Out of these, 178 articles were collected, and finally nine studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study were examined. The research tool was used in the systematic review method and in accordance with the prism instructions, and in the meta-analysis method, the meta-analysis check-list tool was used.
Results: The findings indicated that the interventions related to the treatment of inattentive children, including play therapy, yoga, cognitive training therapy, neurofeedback and drug therapy, and the use of a virtual reality package were effective in improving the symptoms of this group of children and teenagers.
Conclusion: The findings obtained showed that the design and validation of a software package based on virtual reality with real images effectively improved the symptoms of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children. Therefore, it seems that this method could be considered as a suitable method for improving the symptoms of attention deficit disorder in schools and treatment clinics.
