Background and Objective: Health-promoting behaviors are one of the best ways by which people can maintain and control their health. The health of adolescent girls is more important for various cultural and social reasons, the characteristics of girls' puberty and the physical and psychological conditions of this period, and most importantly, the fundamental role of girls in the field of fertility and its impact on family life compared to boys. This study was conducted with the aim of determining health-promoting behaviors in girls' elementary school students in Ardabil city.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 311 fifth and sixth grade students of government, board of trustees and non-profit girls' elementary schools in Ardabil city were studied in 2025. The sampling was stratified random. The required data were collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics parameters such as mean and standard deviation, frequency percentage, Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test (t) and linear regression in SPSS18 software.
Results: The average age of the students was 11.93±0.7, and the average use of cyberspace was 2.31±1.4 hours. The average score of health-promoting behaviors was 161.09±21.81. The highest score belonged to the dimension of responsibility for health with 28.38±4.33 points and the lowest score belonged to the dimension of physical activity and exercise with 26.22±4.56 points. Only the variables of income and hours of use of cyberspace had a significant correlation with the average score of health-promoting behaviors (P<0.05). In the linear regression analysis, only the mother's occupation predicted the students' behaviors (P=0.025).
Conclusion: The health-promoting behaviors of more than 70% of the fifth and sixth grade girls' elementary schools in Ardabil city were assessed at an insufficient level. Considering that the health of adolescent girls is more important for various cultural and social reasons, the characteristics of girls' puberty and the physical and psychological conditions of this period, and most importantly, the fundamental role of girls in the field of fertility and its impact on family lifestyle compared to boys; it is necessary to design and implement a formal and informal education programs on health-promoting behaviors in this age group in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the media.
